Intel unveils new technology for data transmission over the rays of light

Intel announced recently achieved significant progress in its quest to use beams of light to transmit data instead of using electrons in computers.

The company has developed a prototype of the study is the first of its kind in the world, which depends on the transfer of data scanned by laser technology combined.. The new technology allows data transfer speeds and longer distances to double what is used in copper cables today, and data transfer speeds of up to 50 Gigabit per second, which is equivalent to the possibility of transferring the entire movie with high accuracy in one second.
And related computer components today with each other by cables copper or through the paths of copper on the board of electronic circuits, and this lead to a weak signal in data transmission over the metal, and that these cable lengths specified, and this consequently limits of the design computers, and forced the designers to develop computer components Kalmalj and Memory at specific locations close to each other, but the current research directed towards the substitution of such communications fiber optic light and extremely thin can transfer more data to distances much longer and lead to a radical change in the design of computers and change the engineering and design data centers in the future.

Will have silicon technology optical applications in the computing industry, for example, with these high rates of data transfer you can imagine display three-dimensional size of the wall, and the possibility of video conferencing with very high accuracy, so you can interact with others like you in the same room, The components of future data centers will be spread throughout the building and connect with each other at high speeds rather than somehow squeeze in one place by copper cables with limited capacity to communicate.

The model of silicon optical link at 50 Gb / s the outcome of research has continued for years in the field of silicon optical model consists of a transmitter and receiver chip.

Consists of the chip from the sender of four emitters of the laser, each carrying a packet data transfer rate of 12.5 Gb / s, are then combined to generate a single package of the optical fiber at 50 Gb / s, on the opposite end there-receiving chip is thanks to the beams of light four draws each of them to circuit detection you convert the data back to electrical signals, and is a compilation of chips with the technology of low-cost, familiar in the semiconductor industry, and works Intel researchers to increase the speed of data transfer through the expansion rates of speed, as well as increase the number of lasers on the chip , so that future speeds up to 1 terabit / sec is a very high rate sufficient to transfer a complete copy of the contents of a laptop computer in one second.

Lubuntu 10.10 Beta 1

lubuntu is a faster, more lightweight and energy saving variant of Ubuntu using LXDE, the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment. The lubuntu team aims to earn official endorsement from Canonical.

The objective of the lubuntu project is to create a faster, more lightweight and energy saving variant of Ubuntu by using LXDE, The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment, as its default GUI. The ultimate goal of the lubuntu project is to earn official endorsement from Canonical. Members of the lubuntu team take care of LXDE and other packages that are part of the lubuntu installation. Please join us and contribute creating a lighter, less resource hungry and more energy-efficient Linux Desktop. It is our goal to make Linux run on more cost-effective machines and MIDs besides Intel CPUs based on ARM and Mips.
Please note that Lubuntu Maverick is based on Ubuntu Maverick, same warning apply: "Pre-releases of Maverick are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage.  They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs."

Linux Mint Debian (201009) released!

Today is very important for Linux Mint. It’s one day to remember in the history of our project as we’re about to maintain a new distribution, a rolling one, which promises to be faster, more responsive and on which we’re less reliable on upstream components.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) comes with a Debian base, which we transformed into a live media and on top of which we added a new installer. It’s rougher and in some aspects not as user-friendly as our other editions, it’s very young but it will improve continuously and rapidly, and it brings us one step closer to a situation where we’re fully in control of the system without being impacted by upstream decisions.
LMDE also represents an alternative, with the same desktop, the same functionality, but a different base, and a difference in hardware support and compatibility. In the scope of our distribution, and our role, which is to provide a modern and elegant operating system, it’s important to give people a choice. We did it with many upstream components. The Software Manager gives users an easy choice when it comes to selecting their favorite applications. We maintain editions for alternative desktops such as KDE, Xfce, Fluxbox and LXDE. And we also provide a choice between 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. From a technical point of view, a package base is a huge part of an operating system. It makes the system using it a derivative of the distribution maintaining it, something that is both based and fully compatible with it. From a user and project point of view though, this is yet another component, and like any other, it can be changed and replaced with alternatives. The Linux Mint desktop which you’ve come to enjoy on top of an Ubuntu base, can be ported to alternative package bases. By the past, I expressed my enthusiasm about this and my interest in experimenting with Debian, Fedora and our own independent base. Work started on Debian about 3 years ago, it was hesitant and we didn’t have the resources to make it a priority. After the release of Linux Mint 9 LTS, we decided to set some time aside for this project, and we’re now proud to announce that Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is out, and available for download!
Welcome to Linux Mint Debian. I’d like to thank all the testers and our development team, Ikey Doherty in particular, for the work that they put in it. I personally had a lot of fun working on this project, and I hope you’ll enjoy this new distribution.

VocaTalk 1.0.20.0

VocaTalk Personal Podcast is developed by Ilkay Benian, a seasoned software developer with over 14 years of industry experience who currently works for a consulting company in Manhattan, New York.

Ilkay is the creator of the first text-to-speech engine and application for Turkish in 1997 (SpeakTurkish).
We are dedicated to creating learning and self improvement software for people from all walks of life using newest technologies. VocaTalk is our first product and is currently in public beta. We are working on other cool technologies that will eventually become a coherent suite of applications that will change the way you reach and keep up with information.
VocaTalk uses various DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technologies to enhance the speech output. Speech engines usually use 16Khz or 22Khz sampling rate. But VocaTalk's output is always at 44KHz (CD quality). The speech engines normally produce mono output. But VocaTalk's output is always stereo. VocaTalk applies various effects to the sound after resampling up to 44Khz, so the new sound has more details than the original. For example, a 16Khz voice is resampled, turned into stereo, and enhanced by effects that operate on the extra samples which is 4 times the original. Effects like positional audio, echo, voice pitch modulation thus produces a richer and lifelike sound. Audio output from different voice engines can be at different levels caused by the original samples used. VocaTalk automatically adjust volume level to be the same for all voices. VocaTalk also suppresses artifacts that may be produced by signal processing by using digital filtering and floating point precision.
